architecture | airport of the future
For a technical studio based on Fentress Architects' The Airport of the Future challenge, I worked with a partner to design an airport in Melbourne, Australia. The airport is designed with supersonic aircraft in mind, as many technological advances are being made that could make supersonic travel a viable option in the near future. The site is situated in the center of Melbourne on an old cargo shipping harbor site. With access from the water and from the bordering West Gate Freeway, it is an ideal location for reducing commute time.
The design features enveloping glass and a bridge across a small inlet for a 360 degree view of aircraft, the harbor, and downtown Melbourne. The bridge is suspended over the water with no supports underneath to allow visitors to travel under the bridge and enjoy an unobstructed view while arriving to the airport by boat.
