Inflatable Gallery was a commissioned temporary installation pre-fabricated in Austin, Texas and assembled in Marfa, Texas for the El Cosmico Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love. The team of 5 collaborated with artists Butch Anthony and Natalie Chanin to create a small exhibition space for some of their choice works to market their pieces to be sold at the festival.
The goals of the project were to reduce cost and dismantled size while designing a structure that was both fanciful, like Butch's work, and quilted, alluding to Natalie's hand stitching. The structure consisted of PVC tubing, sheet plastic, metal grommets, duct tape, and zip ties. Donated mannequins and large recycled concrete chunks acted as the main structural supports. The project was assembled in an afternoon and was completed for about $150.
